NEWBERRY, MI-- An angler who went missing in Luce County Monday has been found in good condition.
The 64-year-old man from Free Soil, Michigan failed to meet up with his fishing partner and was reported missing around 8 p.m. The Luce County Sheriff’s Office established an incident command post near the intersection of County Road 421 and the Tahquamenon River.
DNR Conservation Officers kayaked the river until 1 a.m. Tuesday, then suspended the search. At 7:30 a.m. sheriff’s deputies and Border Patrol agents joined the river search. A Michigan State Police helicopter arrived at 1 p.m. and within 20 minutes located the man. It took the conservation officers 45 minutes to reach the missing man, who was dehydrated but otherwise in good condition.
The angler said when he realized he was lost he found a small piece of high ground, started a fire, and settled in for the night.
