Teen hunter treated for self-inflicted gunshot wound

IRON COUNTY, MI--   An Iron County hunter shot himself in the foot Tuesday.

State Police from the Iron Mountain Post received a call from the emergency department at Aspirus Hospital in Iron River. Doctors said an 18-year-old man had been out hunting in the early morning hours with his dad. The teen saw a deer, took his hunting rifle off safety, then slipped. The rifle discharged, sending a bullet through his right foot.

The man underwent surgery Tuesday.

State Police continue to investigate the incident.
