MICHIGAMME TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A new exhibit at a Marquette County art museum showcases representations of a historic mining mill by several artists.
WLUC-TV reports the ‘Michigamme Moonshine Art Gallery’ is displaying the depictions of the Humboldt Mill. The Artists at the Mill exhibit is a collaboration between Eagle Mine and the area artists who visited in August before creating their pieces.
Michael Friend says he used the mine's prominent shapes and forms to create an abstract rendering. Kathey Savu says she wanted to represent the hard work and reclamation that's happened at the mine throughout its history.
Eagle Mine's website says the mill has played a key role in Michigan's mining industry since the 1950s. It has been used to mine iron ore and gold, and now produces nickel and copper ore.
