Suspect breaks into former Vandenboom school

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Police have arrested a suspect in a break-in at the former Vandenboom School in Marquette Township over the weekend.

Sunday around 3:15 a.m. Marquette County Central Dispatch was notified of an alarm at the school.  Troopers, Marquette Police officers, and NMU Public Safety responded to the scene.  They searched the school and found a lone male with burglary tools near an open window.

The suspect remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail, pending arraignment.

Officials say the quick response of Marquette City Police and Public Safety officers was instrumental in the arrest of the suspect before he was able to flee the scene.

The building now houses the Marquette Alternative High School.
