MENOMINEE TOWNSHIP, MI— Police have provided additional details about an incident in Menominee Township last week.
Thursday around 7:20 a.m. the Menominee County Sheriff's Office and Menominee City Police were dispatched to a home on a report of a domestic assault and the brandishing of a firearm. Officers learned a man armed with a handgun had barricaded himself inside the house after pointing it at another person.
Police established a perimeter around the residence and called in a negotiator. When the suspect refused to surrender, the Marinette County Special Response Team, Marinette Police Department Tactical Response Unit, and Menominee Police Department Robotics Unit were called in to assist.
That afternoon, after the suspect’s repeated failure to cooperate, tactical units deployed tear gas into the house. The man exited unarmed and was taken into custody.
A woman was also arrested in the incident.
Both remain lodged in the Menominee County Jail.
