BATES TOWNSHIP, MI— Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post are asking the public for help in finding the person responsible for vandalizing a memorial in Iron County.
Someone sprayed white paint on the roadside memorial to Larry Leonarduzzi on the Bates-Amasa Road near Shady Lane in Bates Township.
Leonarduzzi was employed by the Iron County Road Commission. He died in January of 2021 when he was hit by a vehicle while manning a traffic control point in a work zone at that location.
The memorial is a large yellow cross with Leonarduzzi’s name painted in black. Troopers say the malicious destruction of property happened sometime between April 27 at 5:30 p.m. and April 28 at 10 a.m.
Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is asked to contact Michigan State Police.
