MARQUETTE, MI-- Neighborhoods in Ishpeming and Negaunee will see some improvements, thanks to a state grant worth about $223,000.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority awarded the grant to the Marquette County Land Bank Authority. The land bank intends to demolish three commercial and eight residential structures in the two towns.
According to the grant application, downtowns that were built to support the booming mining industry are falling into disrepair, and residential properties are also suffering.
The money comes through the Blight Elimination Program. Another U.P. town to benefit from the program is Manistique, which received about $200,000.
