Some MI schools need more time to accommodate online testing

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan school administrators whose buildings aren't ready for new online standardized testing may request a waiver from the state.

The Detroit Free Press reports the deadline for applying to use paper and pencil exams is Nov. 7. Testing begins in April.

Some schools don't have needed technology in place. Department spokeswoman Jan Ellis says officials want to ensure there's enough time to get enough supplies. The ACT, which has been part of the state's high school exam, will continue to be offered in a paper version.

A report earlier this year found that nearly 80 percent of the schools in Michigan are considered technologically ready for online testing. Officials say, however, that some may not have enough laptops, tablets or other digital devices with which to test students.
