GWINN, MI-- The Forsyth Township Police Department has initiated a new Drug Abuse Resistance Education—or DARE—program in the Gwinn Area Community Schools.
DARE was taught in schools throughout Marquette County in the past, but over the last decade the program has disappeared. Last fall Sergeant Jesse Cadwell attended DARE training in Virginia and can now teach the curriculum.
Police Chief Gordon Warchock says the new DARE program teaches kids not only to stay away from drugs, it emphasizes a skill set that helps them make good decisions on various situations they may encounter growing up.
This semester DARE will be taught to Gwinn 4th graders. Other classes will be added in semesters to come.
