Changes taking place at NMU UC

MARQUETTE, MI--   Demolition of a portion of NMU’s University Center has begun.

President Fritz Erickson did the honors Tuesday morning and kicked off the initial phase of the demolition of the Explorers Wing.

The renovation project includes modernizing the facility and making it more of a destination and activity center for students to relax and socialize after class. To improve the facility’s conference function a 1,200-person ballroom will be created, meeting rooms will be upgraded, and a more welcoming pre-function and networking space will be created. A new exterior façade will also be constructed.

The $19.5 million project is expected to last through August.
