SAULT STE. MARIE, MI-- Lake Superior State University is rolling out its new cannabis business degree this coming fall.
LSSU President Rod Hanley says officials felt the timing was right, as Michigan and Canada legalized marijuana and the federal government has legalized hemp. He says classes like business strategy, marketing, principles of selling, and consumer behavior will prepare students for the burgeoning industry.
“Whether that’s as a business owner, whether it’s as a… working for one of the growing operations that are forming in this state and also many other states… we think that’ll give our students a competitive edge,” he says.
Hanley says you can’t pull textbooks off the shelf to learn about the business of cannabis. He thinks students will be living the textbook on an almost day-to-day basis.
