NMU included in Tier 1 of new ranking

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University has made the top tier of an Educate to Career ranking, while taking the COVID-19 pandemic into account.

ETC released a ranking system in 2014 based on metrics like reasonable total cost and getting graduates into the labor market with high relative earnings. This year the rankings are set within four tiers, and a “distance learning” component is mandatory for a high ranking. Colleges in Tier 1 meet the following criteria: a physical campus for in-classroom instruction, if health officials allow colleges to open; robust software and systems to support distance learning programs; faculty experience in teaching online; and reasonable tuitions and fees on a relative basis.

The revised 2020 ETC college rankings identify 1,200 colleges sorted by state. NMU was the only Upper Peninsula school in Tier 1.
