IRON, DICKINSON COUNTIES, MI-- The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department has issued an order requiring students in kindergarten through 6th grade to wear masks at school in Dickinson and Iron counties.
It also applies to those who teach or help K-6 students in an enclosed educational building.
The order takes effect Monday and will remain in effect until a vaccine is approved for ages 5 to 11, COVID transmission levels reach “low,” or until further notice from the health department.
Since the beginning of September, 382 cases of COVID-19 have been reported to the health department. Officials say school-aged children have accounted for 37 percent of them. Since the start of the school year,
school-aged cases have increased one-and-a-half times each week, and both counties are designated by the CDC as having a high level of COVID transmission in the community.
