ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)-- The American Civil Liberties Union is focused on voter suppression two weeks before the November Election, and Michigan is among the states the ACLU is looking at.
The ACLU is the biggest financial backer of Proposal 3 on Michigan’s November ballot. The “Promote the Vote” proposal would put straight party voting, automatic voter registration, same-day voter registration and no-reason absentee voting in Michigan’s state constitution.
Dale Ho is the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project Director.
“I reject the notion that this is a partisan issue,” he says. “And if the idea of making voting easier and bringing more people into the process is a partisan issue, then I think it’s not pro-democracy people who’ve made it one.”
Critics argue Proposal 3 could lead to voter fraud.
