MARQUETTE, MI-- The U.S. Department of Agriculture is funding various U.P. projects through its Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant program.
Ortele LLC is getting nearly $100,000 to address opioid misuse and provide continued professional education and general medical care. Its Wayne County hub will connect to sites in Gogebic, Mackinac, Luce and Marquette counties. It will serve 44,000 rural residents.
Helen Newberry Joy Hospital will receive a $500,000 grant to buy telemedicine equipment for sites in Newberry, Engadine and Curtis. Mammography equipment will also be upgraded. Almost 3,100 patients are expected to be served during the first three years of the program.
USDA is granting $42.5 million in distance learning and telemedicine projects in 37 states and two U.S. territories.
