UP water/wastewater infrastructure getting upgrades through USDA Rural Development

MARQUETTE, MI— USDA Rural Development has invested $9.7 million to improve the infrastructure of four Upper Peninsula communities.

The City of Wakefield will use a $2-point-9 million-dollar loan for improvements to its water system.

Portage Charter Township will use a $217,000 loan and $1.4 million grant to extend the municipal sewer collection system to an additional 62 homes and businesses that have failing septic systems.

The North Houghton County Water and Sewage Authority will use a $4.6 million loan to make improvements to the wastewater collection and treatment system.

The Village of L’Anse will use a $125,000 loan and $375,000 grant to complete improvements to its wastewater collection and treatment system.
