Shooting by Marinette County deputy prompts investigation

MARINETTE, WI--   The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Marinette County.

The Division of Criminal Investigation says the incident happened Friday around 11 a.m. in Amberg. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence report and tried to make contact with the suspect, who was sitting in a vehicle. The man drove away from the scene, followed by the deputies. After a short distance the suspect got out of his vehicle and brandished a firearm. He was shot by a deputy.

Officers tried lifesaving measures on the suspect, who was taken to a local hospital. He later died of his injuries.

The involved officer was placed on administrative duty, per department policy.

The DCI continues to investigate and will turn over a report to the Marinette County District Attorney for review.
