Rural areas of Eastern UP getting high-speed internet access

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing $19.5 million to bring high-speed internet access to the Eastern U.P.

Alpha Enterprises Limited is using the grant to deploy a fiber-to-the-premises network that will connect more than 1,000 people, 19 businesses, and 10 farms to high-speed internet in Chippewa and Mackinac counties. The service will be made affordable through the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity and Lifeline programs.

The funding comes from the third funding round of the USDA’s ReConnect Program. The USDA has invested a total of $1.7 billion in this round.
