MacArthur lock undergoing emergency repairs

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   One of the Soo Locks is being shut down for repairs.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says a set of gates on the MacArthur Lock isn’t closing properly.  The Corps will drain water from the lock to determine what’s causing the malfunction, then determine the appropriate course of action.

Officials say the lock will be out of commission for at least ten days.

The Corps has notified the shipping industry of expected delays, as ships will be rerouted through the Poe Lock.
