Casperson to undergo treatment for cancer

LANSING, MI--   State Senator Tom Casperson has cancer.

WJMN-TV says the Escanaba Republican made the announcement Thursday on the Radio Results Network. He was diagnosed at the University of Michigan following unsuccessful treatment for what was thought to be a muscle disorder.

Casperson says he has Stage 4 lung cancer and doctors have found several spots in his spine. Next week he’ll undergo a new type of treatment in Dickinson County called amino therapy, which targets specific cells.

He says he’ll continue to work while receiving treatment as long as he can.

The Escanaba native was first elected to the Michigan Senate in 2010. Before that he served as a Representative from 2002 to 2008.
