Sled dogs eager to race

MARQUETTE, MI--   Snowy conditions and cold temperatures must mean it’s time for the UP200, Midnight Run and Jack Pine 30 sled dog races, and the dogs are ready to run!

People, pups and sleds will pack downtown Marquette Friday evening as UP200 teams take off for Grand Marais at 7 p.m.  Midnight Run racers will start around 8:30 p.m.  Saturday at 10 a.m. Jack Pine 30 mushers will take off from Larry’s Family Foods in Gwinn.

Race headquarters at the YMCA—offering a silent auction, merchandise and other items—will be open through Sunday.  The Marquette County Children’s Museum is holding an open house Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.  And NMU is putting up a heated hospitality tent with hot chocolate and cookies from 6 to 9 pm Friday.

Several other events are being held in Marquette County in conjunction with the sled dog races.  For a complete list or for additional information go to www.up200.org.
