Lacrosse launches at NMU

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University is launching the U.P.’s first collegiate lacrosse program.

Head coach Emilia Ward says the team is a mix of freshmen, transfers, and former club athletes.  She notes lacrosse is a relatively young sport in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, so teams are either rebuilding or are within the first five years of existence.

NMU will play its first game Saturday against Northland.  The game starts at noon in the Superior Dome.
