MARQUETTE, MI— Streets in downtown Marquette are being blocked off and mushers are taking care of final details before the 32nd running of the UP 200 and Midnight Run sled dog races Friday night.

They and the Jack Pine 30 are back after COVID-19 forced their cancelation last year.

An opening ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. on Washington Street and the first UP 200 sled will be released at 7:00.

Half an hour after the last musher has left the chute, the Midnight Run kicks off. Those teams will finish Saturday morning at the Ojibwa Casino in Harvey.

Meanwhile, the Jack Pine 30 starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Gwinn. Teams will arrive at the church finish line starting around 12:30 p.m.

And Sunday morning, UP 200 mushers will start crossing the Marquette finish line. You can follow the teams’ progress—and get more information—at www.up200.org.
