Helping the family of a drowned Hancock teen

HOUGHTON, MI--   Friends are trying to raise funds for the family of a Hancock teen who died in a swimming accident over the weekend.

Jimmy Bell, 17, was with friends on the docks at East Lakeshore Drive in Houghton around 3:15 p.m. Saturday when he jumped into the water and failed to resurface.

Officers from the Houghton Police Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety, and Michigan State Police responded to the scene and recovered Bell, who was unconscious. They performed CPR and took him to UPHS Portage for further treatment. Bell was transported to UPHS Marquette, then transferred to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, where he later died.

A fundraising page has been set up to cover Bell’s medical and funeral costs. It’s at gofundme.com/jimmy-bell-medical-costs.
