South Range man facing several charges following high-speed chase

HOUGHTON, MI--   The driver involved in a high-speed police chase through South Range has been charged.

Early Saturday morning deputies with the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop a vehicle driven by James Nixon, 31, of South Range. Nixon is accused of driving off at a high rate of speed through the village. He traveled northbound on Trail #3, hit some trees, and became trapped with a 35-year-old male passenger in the vehicle.

Nixon was arraigned Monday on charges of 3rd-degree fleeing a police officer, operating while intoxicated – 3rd offense, and driving while license suspended – 2nd offense.

Nixon was released from jail on a $500 bond.
