Man arrested in Houghton County for fleeing and eluding police

SOUTH RANGE, MI--   A driver led Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase through the Village of South Range before he crashed his vehicle early Saturday morning.

Around 2:15 a.m. deputies tried to stop a vehicle for driving carelessly around the village. The vehicle—driven by a 31-year-old South Range man—drove away at a high rate of speed. Deputies chased him through the village and northbound onto Trail #3. The vehicle crashed into trees adjacent to the trail, trapping both the driver and a 35-year-old male passenger.

Deputies helped both men out of the vehicle. They were taken to UPHS-Portage for treatment.

The driver was released and taken to the Houghton County Jail. The condition of the passenger is unknown.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
