(UNDATED)- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it's holding two open houses next month to discuss and seek comment on plans for managing state forests in parts of the Upper Peninsula.
An afternoon meeting in Crystal Falls on August 16 will cover a 2014 management plan for the Crystal Falls Management Unit. It includes Dickinson and Iron counties.
An afternoon meeting in Stephenson on August 23 deals with plans for 2014 for the Escanaba Management Unit. It includes Delta and Menominee counties.
The DNR says treatments can include timber harvesting, replanting, and other management activities. The department says they're "designed to ensure the sustainability of the resources and ecosystems."
There will be follow-up meetings after the DNR completes the plans
