SENEY, MI (AP)-- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it has conducted a successful 400-acre burn at the Seney Wildlife Refuge.
Refuge official Gary Lindsay says the purpose of the burn is "to enhance wildlife habitat." He says this week’s burn will help allow fresh plant growth.
Officials say fire helps the ecosystem regain a healthy diversity of species by controlling invasive plants. They say it also helps many native plants become robust.
Lindsay says roads and rivers are used as containment boundaries. He says areas without either are sprayed with water to stop the spreading.
