Four rescued from Picnic Rocks Friday

MARQUETTE, MI--   Four people have been ticketed by Marquette Police for going out to Picnic Rocks in high seas.

Friday around 6:10 p.m. Central Dispatch received a request for emergency services to rescue the swimmers, who had become stranded on the rocks.

U.S. Coast Guard personnel evacuated the three men and one woman from the Kansas City area to a boat in difficult conditions, then took them to the Marquette Station.

The tourists—all in their 20s—were ticketed by police.

Park patrol, city firefighters, and lifeguards assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
