Lost Hogsback hikers found

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two hikers are safe, after they became lost near Hogsback Mountain in Marquette County.

The Sheriff’s office says Steven Claucherty, 19, of Royal Oak and Melinda Fitaian, 18, of Birmingham lost their way Wednesday around 7:30 p.m.  It had become dark on their way back from the mountain.

The two called 911 for help.  Sheriff’s deputies and Search and Rescue personnel were dispatched and—after an hour-and-a-half search—found the hikers.  They were uninjured and escorted out of the woods safely.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
