Marquette bishop to travel entire U.P.

MARQUETTE, MI--   The bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Marquette plans to traverse the length and breadth of the Upper Peninsula in one weekend.

Bishop Alexander K. Sample plans to preside at Mass in four different locations Saturday and Sunday.  Sample plans to travel about 1,140 miles, beginning and ending in Marquette. He's encouraging Catholics throughout the Upper Peninsula to participate.

Masses on Saturday are scheduled for the morning at Our Lady of the Pines Mission in Copper Harbor and in the afternoon at Holy Spirit Parish in Menominee. Masses on Sunday are in the morning at Our Lady of Peace Parish in Ironwood and in the evening at St. Florence Mission at Drummond Island.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
