Verizon improves service, donates to domestic violence programs in the U.P.

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette has become the 400th market in the U.S. to get Verizon 4G service.

Officials say the network is ten times faster than 3G service.

Verizon Wireless held an event Thursday to celebrate the milestone and to announce donations to local programs.

The company says $10,000 is going to the Marquette Women’s Center to benefit domestic violence services.  And $44,000 is being given to 11 other domestic violence agencies throughout the U.P.

The company also donated ten Samsung tablets for Northern Michigan University students to use in class.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
