Lost hunters rescued in Ontonagon County

CARP LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two Ontonagon County hunters are safe, after they became lost in the woods Friday night.

Troopers from the Wakefield Post were called around 11:45 p.m. to the Silver City area of Carp Lake Township when the men didn’t return home.  Troopers tracked them about a mile-and-a-half into the woods and were able to locate the hunters.

The men said they found the deer they shot, but when their flashlight batteries died they decided to build a fire and wait until morning.  The two were in good health and were able to walk out of the woods on their own.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
