Missing Wisconsin man located in U.P.

MASTODON TOWNSHIP, MI--   The body of a missing Appleton man has been found in Iron County, Michigan.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says the search for Joseph Kennedy, 47, started Monday when he failed to show for work.

Tuesday night deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office located his vehicle near the Iron County Airport.  Deputies followed a lone set of footprints leading from the car and found Kennedy’s body in a wooded area south of Airport Road in Mastodon Township.

Evidence technicians examined the scene and say Kennedy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  No foul play is suspected.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
