Bear attacks man in Wisconsin

SILVER CLIFF, WI--   A Marinette County, Wisconsin man is recovering from wounds he received in a bear attack Wednesday.

Sheriff’s deputies say the attack happened around 1:25 p.m. at a cabin in the town of Silver Cliff.  Officials say the man tried to call his dog inside when he saw a black bear going after it, but the bear turned around, chased him instead, and pulled him to the ground.  The victim was able to get up and run to a corner of the cabin, where the bear caught and attacked him again.

The man’s wife grabbed a gun, but didn’t know how to load or use it, so she hit the bear on the head with it.  She was able to give the gun to her husband, who kept the bear at bay until the two could get into the cabin.

A sheriff’s deputy later shot the bear, which was in the victim’s driveway.  The animal is being tested for rabies.

Officials say the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of bites and scratches.  His condition is unknown at this time.
