More than a million Michiganders to travel this weekend

DEARBORN, MI (AP)--   AAA Michigan says about 1.1 million residents of the state will travel 50 miles or more on vacation during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

The auto club announced Wednesday that Michigan travel during the Thursday to Monday period is projected to be nearly on par with last year.

AAA Michigan says nearly 92 percent in the state will travel by personal vehicle, slightly more than last year. Others will travel by air, train or bus.

Nationwide, AAA says about 31.2 million Americans will drive 50 miles or more to a beach, campground or other getaway. That's a small increase from last year but still well short of the record 37.3 million people who drove during the holiday in 2005.
