Splash In comes to Grand Marais

WLUC-TV

BURT TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Lake Superior shoreline hosted a gathering of seaplanes as part of the 13th annual Splash In at the Grand Marais harbor.

WLUC-TV reports that 14 planes lined the shores this weekend in Alger County's Burt Township.

Retired pilot Fred Rakunas says the event is nice because "it brings the same types of pilots together."

Pilots took passengers up for tours of the harbor.

The Splash In also featured flying skills competitions, including landings and trying to strike a buoy with a water balloon from 200 feet.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
