Lost Marquette County hunter found safe

RICHMOND TOWNSHIP, MI--   Marquette County authorities have found a missing hunter.

The Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue responded late Sunday night to a report of a lost hunter in Richmond Township.  Timothy Smith, 56, of Marquette had gotten lost in the woods off North Lake Drive near Camp Ten Road while tracking a deer.

Smith was able to contact Central Dispatch several times with his cell phone, which provided GPS coordinates along the way.

After an hour-long search Smith was found safe in the woods around 11:30 p.m.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
