Get your Christmas tree from a national forest

MUNISING, MI--   If you like the thrill of the hunt when it comes to finding a Christmas tree, the Hiawatha National Forest can accommodate you.

A $5 tree tag will allow you to search the forest, find the perfect tree, cut it down, and take it home.

Along with a permit you’ll get tree-cutting guidelines, information on cutting areas, and suggestions for flame-proofing the tree.

Tags are available at your local Ranger District office in Manistique, Munising, Rapid River, St. Ignace, and Sault Ste. Marie.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
