Fire claims Iron Mountain resident

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   One person has been killed in a house fire in Iron Mountain.  

Firefighters were called to 309 West D Street around 1 a.m. Thursday and found flames coming out of a ground floor window.  After the blaze was extinguished officials found a single victim. 

The fire was contained mostly to the room where the victim was discovered.  The rest of the house sustained heavy smoke damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

The name of the victim has not yet been released. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
