Natural gas leak in Escanaba leads to evacuation

UPDATE - 4:45PM  Work continues on a natural gas leak in Escanaba that forced a limited evacuation earlier today. According to WLUC-TV, Escanaba Public Safety responded to the leak at about 1pm this afternoon near the 1400 block of North Lincoln. Gas service has been shut off to North Escanaba. Residents of the 14th Avenue North and North 22nd Street areas will not have gas service until tomorrow morning. Officials say there is no danger of ignition or explosion.

ESCANABA, MI - Work continues to repair a natural gas leak in Escanaba that lead to the evacuation of residents in the immediate area. According to WLUC-TV, Escanaba Public Safety resPonded to the natural gas leak at about 1pm today at the intersection of 14th Avenue North and North Lincoln Road.

            As of 3:45 this afternoon, the evacuation remains in effect. Escanaba Public Safety officials say the leak has been contained to that specific location and does n

  ot pose a threat to the surrounding area. Construction crews continue to work on the issue.
