WI fire that killed girl deemed accidental

AMBERG, WI--   A fatal fire in Marinette County, Wisconsin last month was apparently started by children playing with a lighter.

Sheriff Jerry Sauve says officials believe the November 26 fire at a home in Amberg started accidentally in the basement where two sisters were playing.

The fire killed two-year-old Lee-Ann Arendt.  She apparently hid when the fire began and died of smoke inhalation.  Her mother and sisters were able to escape the blaze.

The Wisconsin State Fire Marshal says there was no sign of foul play.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
