LANSING, MI-- A propane shortage in the Upper Peninsula is expected to get even worse next week.
The Michigan Public Service Commission says a Wisconsin facility that supplies fuel is shutting down for maintenance. It comes at a time when inventories are 43 percent lower than this time last year.
MPSC Chairman John Quackenbush says propane supplies will be tight through at least the end of the month. "That means propane customers in the Upper Peninsula should use their propane supplies wisely in the coming weeks by reducing usage and avoiding energy waste,” he says.
Governor Rick Snyder declared a state of energy emergency for propane on December 20. On January 10 he declared a second emergency for both propane and heating oil through January 31.
