Iron River pipes freezing up

IRON RIVER, MI--   Iron River’s City Manager is asking all water customers to run water in every building.

Perry Franzoi says water lines are freezing and can’t be thawed because of the extreme depth of frost in the ground.

Water from a cold-water faucet farthest from the water meter in the structure should be run in the diameter of a Number 2 pencil until further notice.

Customers will not be charged for the extra usage.  Future billing will be based on average consumption from previous billing cycles.

The city is trying to flush the water system to purge colder water and replace it with warmer well water.
