NEGAUNEE, MI-- Fire has damaged the Cliffs Natural Resources LS&I railroad track maintenance building at Eagle Mills.
The fire broke out Thursday around 2:45 p.m. in the structure that contains small equipment used to maintain the tracks.
The City of Negaunee and Negaunee Township fire departments responded to the scene and battled the blaze until about 6:30 p.m. One employee was working in the area at the time but was not injured.
The extent of the damage has not been determined and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Railroad operations to and from the Tilden and Empire mines were not affected.
