Helicopter presence in Central U.P. explained

MARQUETTE, MI--   If you’ve been wondering why a helicopter has been buzzing over the Marquette area, wonder no more.

The Marquette Police Department issued a press release Friday saying officers have been working with the Michigan Air National Guard this past week.  Police have been conducting training exercises in a specially equipped chopper designed to assist law enforcement in different scenarios.

Detective-Captain Gordon Warchock says the department and National Guard work together on a regular basis in various capacities.

The helicopter exercise is expected to wrap up Friday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
