New Marquette Co-op up and running (mostly)

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Food Co-op is celebrating the opening of a larger store in a new location.

Thursday morning the co-op board of directors, employees, owners, and community members walked from the old store’s Baraga Street site to its new home at 502 West Washington Street.

The expanded store will contain a kitchen, deli, and fresh meat and seafood department.  Officials say the state of Michigan has yet to transfer the co-op’s liquor license, so they’ll be unable to sell beer or wine for the time being.

Officials also say construction in and around the new store should be finished in the next few weeks.  Harsh winter conditions and a wet spring delayed many of those projects.
