Go off-roading for free this weekend

MARQUETTE, MI--   The state’s first Free Off-Road Vehicle Weekend is being held Saturday and Sunday.

The Department of Natural Resources says residents and non-residents can ride an ORV for free—no license or trail permit is required; however, officials note all rules and laws will still apply, and a Recreation Passport will still be required for vehicles entering state parks or recreation areas.

Free ORV weekend was signed into law last fall.  It designates one weekend per year to coincide with Free Fishing Weekend.

Michigan’s public ORV trail system covers 3,700 miles throughout the state.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
