LANSING, MI (AP)-- The Michigan Department of Community Health has released new fish consumption guides for different parts of the state.
The Eat Safe Fish Guides, formerly known as the Michigan Fish Advisory, offer information based on the levels of chemicals in the edible portions of fish.
The state said Monday it has worked over the past three years to make the Michigan Fish Consumption Advisory Program more scientifically defensible, replicable and transparent. The MDCH also has updated its outreach plan to educate people about the guidelines.
A Great Lakes Restoration Initiative grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has helped to fund the state's work.
