DNR offers wildlife grants

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Applications for the Wildlife Habitat Grant Program are being accepted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

State officials say the program's goals include managing habitat for wildlife in a changing environment. Projects featuring enhancement to game species habitats will be given top priority.

The application period ends Aug. 12. Grant recipients are expected to be announced Oct. 1. Local, state, federal and tribal governments, profit and nonprofit groups and individuals are eligible for funding through an open, competitive process.

Minimum grant amounts will be set at $15,000.

The program started last October and is funded with revenue from hunting and fishing licenses.
